Some simple search features you can use to search better in your community.
There comes a time in the life of every community where the cup of your content overflows. Your blog channels are constantly full of updates on new events, forums are full of discussions about a hopeful future, and your wikis are fortresses of knowledge buttressed by the authority of your users and administrators.
The search function of your community is a great way to find specific documents, pages, forum posts, or users. It can filter by different channel types or by the labels that you've…
Helpful resources for organizations looking to become CASL-compliant
Effective July 1st, 2014, Commercial Electronic Messages (CEMs) sent to recipients in Canada will be governed by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
The new CASL legislation is complex, with a number of nuances and exceptions. Depending on the nature of messages sent via the Igloo platform, they may or may not be regulated by the new legislation. Igloo has developed our CASL compliance policy through consultation with outside counsel, who was able to provide advice based on our specific…
Want to invite someone to an event without making them an obligate attendee? You can.
When you invite someone to an event through Igloo calendars, they are typically set to be a required attendee. However, that is only the default state; there is a simple way to make them optional attendees.
After inviting an individual, just click on the little person icon beside their name. It will fade to a light blue, and they will be invited as optional.
In the example below, Kayleigh has been invited as an optional attendee, while Ryan and Rick are required.
This will show up in the…
Spigot, a suite of custom toolbars, is a set of browser add-ons that could be messing with your Igloo.
We've heard some reports lately of folks trying to sign in to an Igloo Community, but finding that the "Sign In" button is completely unresponsive. After much investigation, we've found that there is a common element in many of these cases. That common element is a collection of browser add ons called Spigot.
Spigot makes custom toolbars and search bars for various websites, that can be added to your browser. They make toolbars for various companies, so you might see something like an Amazon…
On the surface, Igloo pages and spaces seem to be very similar. When is the best time to use a page over a space, and vice versa?
*Note* this article was made somewhat obsolete with the summer 2015 release.
We get a lot of questions about the pages and spaces and when to use what. I'd like to go over some of the benefits of each and best practices pulled from our customer experiences, but first, let's go over the differences between them.
Pages are places to collect and present content. On a page, you can insert any of our widgets, and pull information from anywhere in your Igloo community for easy access to your members.
Spaces are like smaller communities within your intranet, like a state…
How to safely and reliably embed YouTube videos and their relatives on SSL enabled communities.
The Igloo editor is capable of dealing with a wide variety of embedded content, but sometimes it comes out looking a little like this, a big blank space:
Far from this being an Igloo bug, it is a carefully considered and implemented feature of your browser. All modern browers consider unsecured content on an SSL enabled site to be a security risk and actively blocks it from running.
Fortunately, many of the video and other content hosting sites that thrive on shared material are aware of…
How in the world to create an object with the same name as something that you've deleted.
If you ever create a wiki channel and then decide that it should be a page, you might have found yourself trying to find a new name for it, since the old name had a "~1" tacked on the end. There is a reason for this, and it can be escaped!
The URL gets the numeric addition, even if the old object was deleted because the old object secretly still exists! A deleted object lives in the Trash Can for 30 days after it is deleted, and it can be restored to its former glory (and URL) at any time.…
How to check if your PDF security is preventing it from being previewed in your community
Here is a quick walkthrough for how to find old versions of your custom CSS.
Regardless of whether you wish to undo terrible mistakes or remember how something looked in bygone days, it can sometimes be very useful to have access to old versions of your custom CSS files. Fortunately, every time your CSS is updated in the Theme editor, Igloo creates a new version number for your CSS and stores the old one.
You can always access the base Igloo CSS through the Theme editor, but this contains none of the themes that you started with or any customizations that may have…
We've heard that people are loving the Like Button, but we get that sometimes the default colours just don't fit. Here's a quick and dirty guide on how you can change what your Like Button looks like, using CSS.
First things first: Before we go editting and poking about in the CSS for your community, I have one important piece of advice. Always make a copy of the contents of your theme editor before you start making changes. Just copy it all into Notepad, and save a copy. This makes it much easier to go back if things go wrong.
The first thing to know about styling the like button is that it has two states: Default and Liked. The default state is when the active user has not liked an object. When you…
