Tips and Tricks
Just like any trade, a developer needs the right tools for the job. Some may argue what those tools are but here is a short list of my preferred tools when working on any web site or web based application.

Multiple Browser Installs:
Firefox
Internet Explorer

Did you know that you can align, add padding and size up or size down your images using the IGLOO editor? Here’s how…
In the editor menu bar there is an “insert image” function (looks like a tree).
When you click on this button a pop-up menu will appear allowing you to choose from an array of open galleries IGLOO has set up for you (these images are…

Have you ever used the editor to type in a couple of lines and pressed enter, just to notice that it jumped a whole line. What if you want a start a new line right beneath the previous paragraph.
Well, it's working the way it should. But there's a little neat trick to overcome that.
If you press the ENTER key while pressing the SHIFT key, it will drop the cursor down to the immediate line following it. It will still treat it as belonging to the same paragraph. All it does is add a single…

The world is divided into Right brain and Left brain people. Images grab the attention and resonate more with right brain thinkers. While left brain people are more attracted by headlines and the text that follows. Either way, both images and text are equally important to have in order to grab as much of your audience as possible.
The world is busy and fast passed - you only have minutes, if not seconds, to grab someone's attention and make a connection. By including imagery on your…

Most people sign on to their computer every morning without much thought as to the tool they use to browse their favorite sites. If you (or your IT department) are not in the practice of staying up to date with the latest browser versions you may find that eventually a website looks different on another computer (which has a different browser or browser version). As a result you are not getting the best user experience possible.
Of course a good web developer painstakingly reviews their …

Part 1 was all about padding – giving your web page layouts some breathing space. Now let’s go one step deeper into “breathing space”. If your website has lots of content, paragraphs and paragraphs of text, then this is perfect for you.
Line Spacing or Line Height:The amount of vertical spacing, expressed in points (or pixels), from the baseline of one line of text, to the baseline of the next line.
Line spacing may not be obvious to the reader but it sure does make a difference in how…

That's a fair question. I'll try to explain why in this very brief article.
The IGLOO platform generates URLs by stripping non-alphanumeric characters, removing white spaces, transforming to lowercase letters, and truncating it to 10 characters. Easy stuff.
Now, let's say you've created a folder with an already existing name. You'll notice the URL will have a ~ character followed by a number which represents the number of duplicates.
Using the igloosoftware website as an example, I'll show…

In the Font series of blogs we talked about ways to chose and use fonts to make your site easier to read and understand. When it comes to space and layout it’s no different. All of these components add up to the general feeling your site gives to the public, even well before you add graphics and colour.
Padding – it’s not just for contact sports
Padding is the empty space that surrounds all content, images and design elements (such as boxes, buttons etc.) on your web site. Padding gives…

We all love using images on our pages. They add that 'Je ne sais quoi' to our meal. But what happens when we want that image to link to another webpage. Most often, the average user would try to put an image (example: a logo) inside an anchor tag. Finishing it off by giving it an alt attribute, in the case that the image doesn’t show for whatever earthly reason.
I know what you're thinking: I'm not an average user, buddy! So I say: 'Good on you mate!'
Let's improve and evolve our ways,…
