The Igloo LDAP Sync Tool (ILST) is a special application designed to connect to Microsoft Active Directory or OpenLDAP directories, run queries to find people, and add those people to your Igloo community. In addition, it can sync their profile fields, add and remove people from Groups in Igloo, and remove community members after they've been removed from the Directory. With the latest improvements, it can now find people's managers and associate them appropriately, as well as syncing profile pictures. 

How it works

The ILST is a separate application that works with your Igloo community. Run on the client side, it contacts your Directory and runs the query you've set up in the config file to search for members. Once the queries are finished, it securely updates the members in the community using our APIs. How it's set up and when it's run are controlled entirely by you, so it only has the access to your Directory that you allow it, and your Igloo community can never contact the Directory itself.

How it makes your community better

In large communities, managing members individually can get challenging. Changes in title, in department, and new people in your organization can be managed through the Bulk Member Upload function, but it's still a manual process. The ILST offers a way not only to automate that process, but to make it invisible. Your Directory can become the single source of truth on who's a part of your community, their information, and their access. Once it's set up, it can be run as a scheduled task daily to keep the community up to date.

Latest Features

During the last updates, we've added the ability to sync to other elements in your community. The Manager tag lets you pass in the Manager field from your Directory, which is displayed as the manager's name and a link in everyone's profile. That makes it easy to get to a manager's profile directly from the profile of someone who reports to them. 

We also added the ability to sync profile pictures directly from the Directory into Igloo. Images stored in the thumbnailphoto or similar fields can be passed directly to your community using the sync, so everyone's profile picture is waiting for them the first time that they sign in.
