Upcoming Browser Support Changes
Current browser support is found here http://support.igloosoftware.com/wiki/system_requirements
IGLOO will be releasing a new version of our product this July. In this release we will be supporting Internet Explorer 9. We also hope to support Google's Chome 11 as well as Apple's Safari version 5.
Part of this increased support for newer browsers we will be dropping support for some older browsers. Many new features we wish to implement here at IGLOO require a modern browser. Some features are just incompatible with older browsers. In order to keep our platform modern and growing we will be phasing out support for Safari 3 and Internet Explorer 7 with this new release.
This does not mean that after our July release you will not be able to use Internet Explorer 7 or Safari 3 rather new features that come out after that release may not work. While we will endever to make IGLOO as compaible as possible, some new technologies and features just will not run on older browsers. Since we are constantly seeking to improve our platform we must look towards new web technologies.
Users using Apple's Safari 3 will be able to upgrade to Safari 4 (System Requirements for Safari 4). While users using Internet Explorer 7 will be able to upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 (System Requirements for IE8). Both web browsers have the same requirements as their predesessors so users will be able to upgrade easily.
As always thank you for your continued support. I will be updating IGLOO's system requirements page with the new information when we release the new version.
Thank You for your understanding

Our organization has significant concerns about this update, particularly on the heels of the major changes to the forum functionality earlier this year.
I respect the need for you to innovate and for your product to evolve; however, will IGLOO be providing a demonstration or documentation about these new features before they are released? How about a longer-term development roadmap, so that customers can know what to expect? Unveiling new features on our production environment has made it exceptionally challenging to keep up with our community members' support needs.
As it is, we are still struggling to update our user documentation to reflect the forum changes and our concerns, along with other customers, have generally been met with silence in the support community.
Finally, our communities are largely oriented toward users in the public school system and government agencies. Your assertion that users can "easily" upgrade their web browsers simply isn't true in a controlled, professional environment.
The changes being made will have an effect on site administrators. This means that administrators should be strongly encourage to upgrade to keep on using the the product without error. Most applications and programs for administrators will still run in IE7 for some time after this new release but it will become difficult to maintain that support while introducing support for IE9. As improvments and upgrades are made to the site manager as well as the widgets it will be difficult to keep functionality in IE7 as it is just not modern enough.
User experience should not differ at all. The communities will still display correclty for users and they will still be able to submit content and use the community without incident. There will not be a drastic change occuring with the release. Visiters to your community will not be hindered.
I hope I have addressed all your concerns Hank, if you would like to discuss it with me further please feel free to email me, support at igloosoftware.com
Thank you and take care.

We are encountering IE9 more and more with our members so we are happy that support for it is coming. Is there a specific date or time range in July we can expect the new release?
Why Yes. I just receieved that information myself and I will be posting an announcement regarding it today.
